For Individuals

What is Coaching?

To answer this question, sometimes it is better to ask what coaching is not. Coaching is not directional, meaning it is not like consulting, mentoring or training. In fact, the International Coaching Federation defines coaching as "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential."

I also like the simplistic definition of coaching that the Institute For Life Coaching Training. "Coaching is a professional relationship that helps people produce extraordinary results in their lives, careers, businesses or organisations, helping them to bridge the gap between where they are now and where they want to be".

So what does this mean in practice?

Let's take a simple hypothetical example where a client tells their coach they are planning to buy a car but cannot decide. Rather than the coach recommending a diesel with 150 horsepower and a 2-litre petrol tank (directional), a coach may ask; what will buying a new car give you? What do you want to gain from a new car? And what other options do you have?

As your Coach, I will help you make your own decisions by being your thought-provoking partner, who asks powerful questions, listens deeply, notices patterns, encourages self-reflection, and is aware of your feelings. If you're stuck, we will go through your journey together towards clarity, ensuring structure and accountability. Above all, I believe that you have all the answers within you!
